Delivering for you
Consistent with our community’s forward-looking, modern liberal values, Tim has fought for the economic, social and environmental progress for our community and Australia. Here’s a summary of what Tim and the Coalition Government has achieved for you since 2016.
An economic dividend
More than 1.1 million more Australians are in jobs since this Government was elected. Nearly 60% of these have been full time jobs. 100,200 more jobs for 15-24 year olds were created in the 12 months to June 2018. This was the strongest result of any financial year on record (since 1979).
DELIVERING TAX RELIEF
We are making taxes lower, simpler and fairer. In 2018-19, around 4.4 million Australians will get tax relief of $530 per year. Over 10 million taxpayers will get some tax relief. Our legislated plan means that after seven years 94% of taxpayers will pay no more than 32.5 cents in the dollar.
We are locking in the benefits of historic trade agreements with China, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South Korea. Australian exporters will benefit from the new Trans-Pacific Partnership – an Agreement between 11 major economies in our region (worth $13.7 trillion).
An environmental dividend
We are leading the transition to cleaner energy generation — our investment in Snowy 2.0 will power the equivalent of 500,000 homes during peak demand. This puts downward pressure on wholesale electricity prices and ensures we are generating affordable, reliable clean energy.
Australia’s $11 billion investment last year in clean energy placed us seventh in the world (third on a per capita basis).
Renewable energy will reach 23.5% of Australia’s electricity supply by 2020. There are enough renewable projects underway now to meet that target.
Australia will meet the emissions requirements of the Paris Agreement. Australia beat its first Kyoto target by 128 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. We are on track to beat our 2020 target by 294 million tonnes.
CLIMATE SOLUTIONS FUND
On 25 February 2019, the Coalition Government established a Climate Solutions Fund to provide an additional $2 billion to continue purchasing low-cost abatement, build on the success of the Emissions Reduction Fund and continue the momentum to reach Australia’s 2030 emissions reduction target. The additional funding ensures Australian farmers, businesses and Indigenous communities continue to have opportunities to undertake emissions reduction projects that provide local benefits.
